A Special Edition and an Anniversary for the Honda Accord

Published on July 26 2016

This summer, Honda will be celebrating another milestone. After the Civic’s 40th anniversary, the spotlight is now on the Accord. The model has been on the market for 40 years now, launching for the first time in 1976. What better way to highlight the occasion than by introducing another member to the Accord family, the Special Sport Edition.

More Changes to the 2017 Honda Accord

For 2016, the Accord received a freshened-up look with new and elegant LED headlamps and strong character lines, carried on from the upgraded lineup and inspired by the luxury branch Acura. This year, the lineup is fuller that it’s ever been. Two or four doors, four cylinder or V6, there are a whole variety of Accords to choose from. For 2017, Honda will also introduce two new players in the lineup.

First, the returning Accord Hybrid will become the most fuel efficient member of the family. After a one year hiatus, the hybrid variant is making a comeback, now better than ever. Entirely new to this year will also launch the 2017 Accord Sport Special Edition. This Special Edition will bear trim-specific badging as well as heated seats with red contrasting stitching. Along with these special features, this edition of the Accord will also receive all the great features of the model including HandsFreeLink with Bluetooth connectivity and wheel-mounted controls, SMS and e-mail function, satellite radio, adaptive cruise control, wireless device charging, navigation, proximity key, and much more.

Quite the Legacy for the 2017 Honda Accord

To think that back when it first launched, the Accord was a small, compact hatchback offered with three doors and a wheelbase smaller than a Fit! Since, 13 million Accords have sold in the United States only and today, the model boasts one of the most enviable position in the mid-size sedan segment. No wonder North Americans like the model so much: its history is perfectly grounded in America.

In 1982, the Accord became the first Japanese car to come out of production from an American-based plant, the Honda Marysville plant in Ohio. Over 30 years later, over 10 millions Accords have been produced in North America for the global market. Through the years, the model has adapted to become the mid-size sedan customers have come to rely on. It evolved from this small nutshell on wheels into a sophisticated, powerful and convenient sedan.
